Russia’s VKontakte denies reports on leak of 100 mln users’ data
MOSCOW, Jun 6 (PRIME) -- Russian social network VKontakte has denied reports on a leak of information about 100 million users and a crack of its data base, a spokesperson for the country’s widest network said Monday.
“We have to deny media reports about a leak of data to enter user pages in VKontakte. There has been no intrusion into the data base; they spoke about an obsolete base of logins and passwords, which perpetrators assembled during the period of 2011–2012. Data for page entrance for all mentioned users were compulsory changed,” the spokesperson said.
Portal Motherboard reported earlier that information about more than 100 million users of VKontakte was offered on sale in the gray segment of the Internet.
The hacker, called Peace, obtained names, second names, e-mails, phone numbers and passwords of these users, the portal said.
